Silly Santa: From PPC Dependency to Scalable Organic Growth Across 7 Countries
Silly Santa had long been heavily reliant on PPC and Paid Social. That worked during the season, but there was a catch: costs increased every year, while organic visibility appeared only sporadically—without a clear system and without reliable measurement.
On top of that came the project reality: 7 separate Shopify domains, 7 markets, 7 languages—yet one shared goal. Each local SERP behaves differently, users search differently, competitors vary, and without a clear international SEO framework, cannibalization quickly becomes an issue.
Our mission was clear: build SEO into a scalable growth channel, optimize locally for each country, and prepare Shopify in a way that content, structure, and snippets actually drive revenue during the season.
Domains in scope:
sillysanta.de, sillysanta.dk, sillysanta.fi, sillysanta.nl, sillysanta.no, sillysanta.se, sillysanta.uk
International SEO for 7 Countries: Making Every Domain Win in Its Market
With seven country domains, SEO is not just about “more content.” What matters is that Google understands each website as a locally relevant result and serves it in the right market.
In practice, part of the organic traffic also came from countries with similar languages. This is not inherently bad, but it distorts a domain’s market fit. That’s why we deliberately established two core foundations: clean hreflang signals and consistent local content per domain, built on keyword research and search intent.
Hreflang ensures that Google prioritizes the correct country version in each SERP, while the content approach guarantees that every domain fully covers the terms, collections, and purchase intents of its market.
Tracking example: Norway
After clearly assigning the market via hreflang, traffic became measurably “cleaner.” The traffic share increased from 80% to 93%. Similar effects were observed in other countries as well.
What We Implemented: Full-Scope Shopify SEO
With seven country domains, SEO only works as a system when content, technical setup, and authority work together. That’s why we built a full-scope framework that performs locally in each market and scales cleanly on Shopify.
- Comprehensive content audit of key categories and seasonal landing pages
- Full overhaul of metadata (title/description) to improve relevance and snippet quality
- H1–H3 aligned with search intent so both Google and users immediately understand the page focus
- Added SEO and commercial content without overloading collection pages
- Optimized collection pages structurally (readability, scannability, internal orientation, reduced keyword overlap to prevent cannibalization)
💡 Result: Higher SERP relevance, stronger entry pages for seasonal queries, and more stable rankings at the collection level
- Links exclusively from topically relevant sources—no mass or “random” placements
- Backlinks strategically focused on strengthening key categories and seasonal money pages
- Local links built per domain to support market relevance in each country
- Hand-picked placements, manually reviewed and validated for quality
💡 Result: Increased authority for revenue-driving pages and a more stable foundation for top rankings during the season
- Implemented hreflang across all language and country versions (7 domains, 7 markets)
- Clean country targeting in the SERPs, even across neighboring markets with similar languages
- Clear separation of market coverage so each domain is recognized as “the local version”
- Tracking example: local traffic share in NO increased from 80% to 93%
💡 Result: “Cleaner” traffic per market, stronger local relevance signals, and less spillover across similar-language regions
- Adjusted internal linking within categories so collection pages support each other in a meaningful way
- Strengthened key commercial pages to ensure authority flows to the main money pages
- Added links to high-potential pages (those close to top-ranking positions)
- Improved interlinking between websites without diluting local relevance per domain
💡 Result: Improved crawl flow, clearer prioritization for Google, and more ranking power on the pages that matter most during the season
- Reviewed and refined conversion elements and trust factors together with the owner
- Improved Shopify-specific collection journeys so users can find the right product faster
- Reduced friction (clarity, orientation, less “searching” on entry pages)
➡️ Result: SEO traffic doesn’t just stay as “visits” but converts more effectively into actions and revenue—especially during the season
The real transformation wasn’t “more content”—it was a system
Moving away from PPC dependency doesn’t happen through isolated actions. It happens when SEO works as a repeatable system across all domains, and delivers exactly when the season matters most.
In this project, the lever wasn’t “writing more,” but aligning three core building blocks at the same time:
- 1. Local relevance per country (keyword research, local terminology, aligned collections, and search intent)
- 2. Scalable Shopify implementation (metafields, FAQ modules, schema, clean templates—so content can be rolled out quickly and consistently)
- 3. Authority that pushes collections to the top (high-quality link building focused on the pages that drive revenue)
Only this combination makes SEO season-ready, by bringing together visibility, relevance, and revenue impact within one system.

Across all 7 domains, GA4 shows a very clear picture: more organic reach (users/sessions), more actual engagement (engaged sessions), and in almost all markets a noticeable uplift in revenue and conversion. This is exactly the combination that makes SEO “sustainable” in a seasonal business.
- Markets where everything grew simultaneously: DK, NL, and SE. Here, traffic and engagement increase significantly, with revenue clearly following.
- Efficiency over just reach: NO shows more moderate traffic growth, but a strong increase in revenue. This indicates that the organic traffic mix has become more purchase-ready.
- Interpreting the scaling effect correctly: The UK shows the strongest reach growth, with users and sessions nearly quadrupling. The slight drop in conversion rate is a normal effect when scaling, as the traffic mix broadens and includes more “cold” users. What matters is that revenue (+150.4%) and key events (+305.6%) still increased significantly—clearly driving strong business impact.
If you want to scale across 7 countries, you need a system—not luck
Silly Santa shows that SEO in a seasonal business doesn’t succeed through isolated optimizations, but through a setup that works cleanly across all markets. Seven domains mean seven markets—and each market requires clear signals, local relevance, and a technical foundation that truly scales with Shopify.
The key lever was the combination of clear country targeting (hreflang), keyword-driven content per domain, Shopify structures that deploy content cleanly (metafields, FAQ, schema), and off-page efforts focused on strengthening the collection pages that drive revenue during the season.
The result isn’t a “set it and forget it” approach, but a stable organic growth channel that doesn’t need to replace paid—but significantly reduces dependency on it.
If you’re running a similar multi-domain setup on Shopify, this is exactly the kind of full-scope work we deliver as a Shopify SEO agency, with a clear international structure and a focus on measurable seasonal impact.
